Zac Efron

When High School Musical premiered on the Disney Channel in January 2006, Zac Efron became famous almost overnight as Troy Bolton, the basketball player who would rather sing. There was an irony buried in the film: much of Troy's singing in that first movie was actually performed by another singer, Drew Seeley, blended with Efron's voice. Efron did his own singing in the sequels, and he has spent much of the two decades since proving he was more than a Disney poster.

He was born on October 18, 1987, in San Luis Obispo, California, at 1:22 in the afternoon, as recorded on his birth certificate. Libra holds his Sun, in the ninth house, with Mars in Libra there as well. Libra governs charm, beauty and the desire to please, and the ninth house is about growth, travel and the search for meaning. A Libra Sun with Mars in the same sign describes someone whose drive is expressed through charm and who wants, above all, to be liked, which fits the effortlessly appealing persona that made him a teen idol.

Capricorn is his rising sign, which brings ambition, discipline and seriousness beneath the surface. Efron's father, an engineer, pushed him toward theater as a boy, and he trained at the Pacific Conservatory of the Performing Arts before landing television roles.

The tenth house, which governs career and public image, holds three Scorpio planets: Mercury, retrograde, Venus and Pluto. Scorpio is the sign of intensity and transformation, and Pluto in the tenth is associated with dramatic reinventions of public identity. Efron has rebuilt his image several times: as a romantic lead in 17 Again, a comic actor in Neighbors, a musical star again in The Greatest Showman, a chilling Ted Bundy in Extremely Wicked, Shockingly Evil and Vile, and a heartbreaking Kevin Von Erich in The Iron Claw, for which he transformed his body to play the wrestler.

His Moon is in Virgo in the eighth house. Virgo is self-critical and perfectionist, and the eighth deals with intense, private emotional experience. That combination can be hard on the person who has it. Efron has spoken about the pressure of keeping up an image of physical perfection, particularly after the extreme fitness regime for the 2017 film Baywatch, which he later said left him with insomnia and depression. He sought treatment for substance use in 2013.

Neptune in Capricorn and Uranus in Sagittarius share the twelfth house, the private end of the chart, associated with withdrawal and retreat. In 2020 he made the Netflix travel series Down to Earth with Zac Efron, and around then he spent long stretches living quietly in Australia, away from Hollywood.

Saturn in Sagittarius, in the eleventh house of friends and communities, fits a loyal collaborator who keeps returning to the same people, from Kenny Ortega's three High School Musical films to the two Neighbors comedies. The Libra Sun got him loved; the Scorpio planets at the top of his chart have kept him changing ever since.
