Bella Hadid

As a teenager Bella Hadid wanted to ride horses at the Olympics. She was a serious equestrian with her sights on the 2016 Games, until she was diagnosed with Lyme disease, which also affected her mother and her brother, Anwar. The illness ended her riding ambitions, and she turned instead to modeling, signing with IMG Models in 2014. Within two years she was named model of the year by Models.com and was walking for nearly every major fashion house.

She was born on October 9, 1996, in Washington, D.C., at 4:19 in the morning, the time on her birth certificate. Her Moon and Venus are both in Virgo, and Mars is in Leo, all in her twelfth house, the part of a chart associated with hidden suffering, illness, solitude and the private self behind the public image. Virgo is self-critical and health-conscious, and the twelfth house keeps struggles out of view. Hadid has said that for years she hid serious anxiety and depression behind a polished image, and in 2021 she shared photos of herself crying to show followers that what they saw online was not the whole truth.

Virgo is also her rising sign, describing a careful, reserved and observant presence. Hadid has often called herself shy, and in her early career she was known for an aloof, almost severe look on the runway.

Her Sun is in Libra in the second house, with Mercury at the very start of Libra in the first house. Libra is the sign of beauty, style and aesthetic harmony, and the second house governs income and personal values. A Libra Sun there describes someone who earns a living through beauty and style, which is about as literal a description of a top model as a chart can provide.

Her father, Mohamed Hadid, is a Palestinian-born real estate developer, and her mother, Yolanda, a former model, became well known on The Real Housewives of Beverly Hills. Her older sister, Gigi, became a supermodel first.

Saturn, retrograde in Aries, falls in her seventh house of partnership, suggesting relationships that require patience and sometimes bring difficult lessons. Her relationships have attracted intense media attention, and she later found a quieter life away from the city with a partner from the rodeo world, Adan Banuelos.

Uranus and Neptune lie in her fifth house of creativity and self-expression, describing a taste for the unexpected and the dreamlike. At Paris Fashion Week in 2022 she walked the runway for Coperni in a dress sprayed directly onto her body from cans, one of the most talked-about fashion moments of the year.

Jupiter in Capricorn sits in her fourth house of home and roots. Hadid has spoken publicly about her Palestinian heritage and advocated for Palestinians, despite criticism that she has said cost her work. In 2024 she launched her own fragrance brand, Ôrebella.

The Libra Sun built a career on beauty; the Virgo planets in her twelfth house are a reminder of how much of that life happened out of sight.
