Riley Green

Riley Green learned to perform at his grandfather's music hall. In Jacksonville, Alabama, his grandfather Buddy hosted bluegrass and country jam sessions, and Riley played and sang there as a teenager alongside older musicians. Years later he wrote "I Wish Grandpas Never Died," a song about his grandfathers and the small-town world they represented, and it became one of the songs that made his name.

He was born on October 18, 1988, in Jacksonville, Alabama. Green has never shared the hour he was born, so there is no Ascendant to work with, but his planets fit him well. His Sun is in Libra, with Mercury, retrograde, also in Libra. Libra is ruled by Venus and associated with charm, melody and partnership. A Libra Sun describes an easygoing, likable performer with an instinct for harmony, and Green has had some of his biggest successes in duets.

Venus in Virgo adds modesty, practicality and an appreciation for simple things. Green's songs tend to celebrate ordinary pleasures: hunting and fishing, small-town bars, trucks, faith and family. He has spoken about wanting to write country music that reflects the way he actually lives.

Mars, retrograde in the first degree of Aries, describes a competitive, physical energy. Green played quarterback at Jacksonville State University, and he has an athlete's love of competition. He is also a dedicated outdoorsman, and much of his downtime is spent duck hunting and fishing in the Alabama woods and rivers he sings about. Fans have embraced him partly because the image matches the man: he rarely seems to be playing a character, and his songs often sound like conversations with friends at the end of a long day.

Saturn and Uranus, both in late Sagittarius, belong to his generation and suggest a serious, independent streak. Green spent years playing small venues in the South and building a following before a major label signed him. His debut single, "There Was This Girl," reached No. 1 on the country radio chart in 2019, and he was named the Academy of Country Music's new male artist of the year.

Jupiter, retrograde in Gemini, favors collaboration and conversation. In 2023 he released "Different 'Round Here," a duet with Luke Combs, and in 2024 he teamed with Ella Langley on "You Look Like You Love Me," a spoken-and-sung duet that became a No. 1 hit and won major country music awards. His own single "Worst Way" also reached No. 1 that year.

Neptune in Capricorn describes respect for tradition and a slightly nostalgic outlook, and Pluto in Scorpio adds emotional depth. Many of Green's songs look back, toward grandparents, hometowns and a way of life he fears is disappearing.

The Libra Sun made him a natural partner on a duet; the Venus in Virgo kept his songs plain, honest and close to home.
