Michael Douglas

Michael Douglas's first Academy Award was not for acting. In 1975 he produced One Flew Over the Cuckoo's Nest, using the film rights his father, Kirk Douglas, had owned for years, and the film won Best Picture. It took another twelve years for him to win an Oscar for his own performance, as Gordon Gekko in Wall Street, the corporate raider who declared that "greed, for lack of a better word, is good."

He was born on September 25, 1944, in New Brunswick, New Jersey, at 10:30 a.m. by his birth record. His Moon is in Capricorn in the second house of money and resources. Capricorn is ambitious, strategic and concerned with status and material success, and the second house governs wealth. There could hardly be a more fitting placement for the actor who created Gordon Gekko, cinema's emblem of financial ambition.

Saturn in Cancer sits in his eighth house, which concerns inheritance, legacy and what we receive from those before us. Saturn there describes the weight of inheritance, and Douglas grew up as the son of one of Hollywood's biggest stars. He has spoken about the pressure of following Kirk Douglas, and about how their relationship, distant during his childhood after his parents divorced, grew close in later life.

His Sun is in early Libra in the eleventh house, with Mars and Neptune also in Libra. Libra is the sign of partnership and balance, and the eleventh house governs friendships, alliances and collaborators. Douglas built his career as both actor and producer, assembling teams to make films. He shares his birthday, September 25, with his wife, Catherine Zeta-Jones, whom he married in 2000.

Mercury and Jupiter, both in Virgo, sit in his tenth house of career and reputation. Virgo is careful and detail-oriented, and Jupiter in the tenth brings expansion and success in public life. After co-starring in the police series The Streets of San Francisco with Karl Malden, he built a career with a remarkable run of box-office hits in the 1980s and 1990s, including Romancing the Stone, Fatal Attraction and Basic Instinct.

His Ascendant is in Scorpio, lending an intense, magnetic and slightly dangerous air. Many of his best-known roles involve sexual tension, power and moral compromise.

In 2010 he was diagnosed with stage four throat cancer. He underwent treatment, recovered, and returned to win an Emmy for playing Liberace in Behind the Candelabra in 2013. He later played Hank Pym in the Ant-Man films, won a Golden Globe for the Netflix comedy The Kominsky Method, and portrayed Benjamin Franklin in a 2024 series.

Uranus, retrograde in Gemini, falls in his seventh house of partnership, and Pluto in Leo lies in his ninth house. The Capricorn Moon in his house of money gave him Gekko; the Saturn in his house of inheritance gave him a legacy to live up to, and he did.
