bell hooks

bell hooks carried a Sun in Libra in the tenth house, and it is hard to imagine a more precise astrological description of a public intellectual whose life's work was, in essence, an argument for balance — between love and justice, between the personal and the political, between critique and tenderness. Libra in the career house doesn't just want recognition; it wants its public role to be an act of fairness, a corrective to imbalance in the wider world.

The Moon in Sagittarius sits in the first house, meaning the self she presented to the world was, from the very first impression, philosophical and freedom-oriented — someone whose emotional truth and public identity were nearly the same thing. That's a rare kind of integration, and it shows up in writing that never separated the personal essay from the political argument; for her, they were always the same act of meaning-making.

Mercury and Venus both continue the Libra theme, giving her thought and her sense of connection a natural orientation toward relationship, harmony, and equity — the very themes that ran through more than thirty books on love, belonging, and liberation. Mars in Sagittarius gave that gentleness real conviction; her drive was philosophical, not aggressive, but it did not back down.

With Jupiter and the North Node retrograde, a good portion of her expansive, belief-driven energy was built through long internal revision — ideas developed and re-developed across a lifetime rather than arriving whole.
