Mary-Kate Olsen

Mary-Kate Olsen began working before she could walk. At nine months old, she and her twin sister, Ashley, were cast to share the role of Michelle Tanner on the sitcom Full House, alternating so the production could work within child labor rules. Over eight seasons, from 1987 to 1995, the toddler became one of the most famous characters on television, and the twins, together, became a brand.

She was born on June 13, 1986, in Sherman Oaks, California, two minutes after Ashley. Her birth time has not been published, so astrologers have no Ascendant to go on, but her Sun sign could hardly be more appropriate. Gemini holds her Sun, and it is the zodiac's sign of the twins, of duality and partnership. Gemini is symbolized by a pair of siblings, and few people have lived that symbol as literally as the Olsen sisters, whose careers, businesses and public identities have been joined almost from birth.

Mercury and Venus sit in Cancer, which values privacy, home and protection. Cancer guards its inner life carefully, and in adulthood both sisters became famously private, rarely giving interviews and largely withdrawing from celebrity.

Mars, retrograde in Capricorn, describes ambition and discipline that work quietly and strategically. Capricorn is the sign of business and long-term building. As children, the twins' company, Dualstar Entertainment, produced a long series of films, videos, books, clothing and other merchandise, and by their teens they were among the wealthiest young women in Hollywood.

Mary-Kate struggled in public during her late teens. In 2004 she entered treatment for an eating disorder. She studied briefly at New York University and acted in a few more projects, including the series Weeds and the film Beastly, before stepping away from acting altogether. She has said she always found the attention of fame difficult, and that design allowed her to work creatively without being looked at all the time. The sisters have rarely given interviews since, preferring to let the clothes speak for them.

Saturn and Uranus, in Sagittarius, describe independence and a desire to break from expectations. In 2006 the sisters founded The Row, a fashion label built on minimalist, extremely high-quality clothing, deliberately avoiding logos and publicity. The fashion world, initially skeptical, came to respect it, and The Row has won major awards from the Council of Fashion Designers of America, including Womenswear Designer of the Year.

Jupiter in Pisces describes growth through quiet artistry and intuition, and Neptune in Capricorn suggests an ability to build an image of understated luxury. Pluto in Scorpio adds intensity to private life.

In 2015 Mary-Kate married the French banker Olivier Sarkozy; they divorced in 2021. The Gemini Sun made her one half of the most famous twin act in entertainment; the Cancer planets made her guard the other half of her life.
