Christine Sinclair

Christine Sinclair has scored more international goals than any other soccer player in history, man or woman. In 2020 she passed the American Abby Wambach's record of 184, and she finished her career for Canada with 190. Few athletes have defined their country's place in a sport so completely: for two decades, Canadian women's soccer and Christine Sinclair were almost the same thing.

She was born on June 12, 1983, in Burnaby, British Columbia. Her birth time is not part of the public record, which leaves her Ascendant unknown, but her planets suit her career well. Her Sun is in Gemini, with Mars also in Gemini. Gemini is quick, agile and adaptable, and Mars in Gemini describes speed of thought and movement. Sinclair was known for her intelligence on the field, her ability to find space and her composure in front of goal, scoring with both feet and her head.

Her Moon falls in Cancer, which values loyalty, privacy and a sense of belonging. A Cancer Moon treats a team like family. Sinclair was famously private and reserved, uncomfortable with personal attention, and she preferred to talk about her teammates rather than herself.

Venus in Leo adds warmth, pride and a quiet capacity for leadership. Sinclair captained Canada for many years, leading by example rather than through speeches.

She starred at the University of Portland, where she won two national championships, and spent much of her professional career with the Portland Thorns, winning several league titles in the National Women's Soccer League. She played for Canada at six World Cups.

Jupiter and Uranus in Sagittarius, the sign of adventure and wide horizons, describe a career spent traveling the world for the national team, and Saturn, retrograde in Libra, suggests hard-won success and lessons about fairness and patience.

At the 2012 London Olympics, she scored a hat trick in a semifinal against the United States that Canada lost 4–3 in extra time after controversial refereeing decisions. Canada won bronze in 2012 and again in 2016. In Tokyo in 2021, Canada finally won Olympic gold, beating Sweden on penalties in the final.

Neptune in Sagittarius and Pluto in Libra belong to her generation. Sinclair retired from international play in 2023 and from club soccer in 2024. She was appointed an Officer of the Order of Canada. Teammates have described her as a quietly funny presence behind the scenes, and younger Canadian players grew up wearing her number twelve. Her final international match, in Vancouver in December 2023, drew a sellout crowd, and she left the field to a long standing ovation, embracing teammates who had grown up idolizing her.

The Gemini Sun gave her the speed and intelligence to score; the Cancer Moon made her a captain who always put the team first.
