Rosalia

Rosalía's breakthrough album started as a university project. While finishing her studies at the Catalonia College of Music in Barcelona, where she spent years studying flamenco, she built her final thesis around an anonymous thirteenth-century Occitan novel, Flamenca, about a woman imprisoned by a jealous husband. The result was El Mal Querer, released in 2018, which fused flamenco with trap, R&B and electronic production, won Latin Grammys and made her an international star.

She was born Rosalía Vila Tobella on September 25, 1992, in Sant Cugat del Vallès, near Barcelona, at 1:50 in the afternoon, the time on her birth record. Her Sun is in Libra, with the Moon and Jupiter in Virgo, all three in the ninth house, which governs higher education, faraway cultures, tradition and philosophy. A ninth-house emphasis describes someone drawn to learning, to old traditions and to other cultures, and Rosalía's career is rooted in a scholarly devotion to flamenco, an Andalusian art she studied intensively despite growing up in Catalonia.

Libra is the sign of beauty, style and aesthetic balance. A Libra Sun gives a strong visual sense, and Rosalía's albums arrive with carefully designed imagery, from the painted nails and motorbike helmet of Motomami to the religious and medieval references of El Mal Querer.

The Moon in Virgo adds meticulousness and perfectionism. Rosalía is known for an obsessive approach to her work, producing much of her own music and drilling vocal techniques for years under the flamenco teacher José Miguel Vizcaya, known as El Chiqui.

Sagittarius is her rising sign, with Uranus and Neptune, both in Capricorn, in the first house. Sagittarius is adventurous and open to the world, and Uranus there brings a radical, experimental edge to self-presentation. Rosalía has repeatedly surprised listeners, shifting from traditional flamenco on her debut, Los Ángeles, in 2017 to the fragmented, genre-hopping Motomami in 2022, which won the Grammy for Best Latin Rock or Alternative Album.

Mercury in Libra and Venus, just inside Scorpio, sit in her tenth house, where public image is read. Venus there describes a career built on artistry and glamour, and Rosalía has become a fashion figure as much as a musician, collaborating with major designers and appearing at the Met Gala.

Mars in Cancer, placed in her seventh house of committed relationships, suggests passionate, protective relationships. She was engaged to the Puerto Rican singer Rauw Alejandro, and they released a joint project, RR, in 2023, before announcing their separation later that year.

Saturn in Aquarius lies in her second house of resources, describing a disciplined approach to building independence. Rosalía has insisted on creative control over her music and image. The ninth-house planets made her a student of tradition; the Uranus in her first house made sure she would break it open.
