Olivia Rodrigo

In January 2021, a 17-year-old actress from a Disney series released her first single, a slow piano ballad about getting her driver's license and driving past an ex's street. Within days "drivers license" was the most-streamed song in the world. It went to No. 1 in the United States and stayed there for eight weeks, and Olivia Rodrigo stopped being known primarily as an actor.

She was born at 3:00 a.m. on February 20, 2003, in Murrieta, California, a time she has shared herself, and her Sun sits at the very start of Pisces, alongside Mercury in Aquarius, in the second house. Pisces is the sign astrologers associate with feeling, imagination and music, and with emotions so close to the surface they spill over. The second house governs values, possessions and self-worth. Pisces in the second suggests someone whose sense of value is tied to what she feels and can express, which may be the most concise description of a confessional songwriter.

She grew up in Southern California, started acting in commercials as a child, and was cast in Disney's Bizaardvark and then High School Musical: The Musical: The Series, where she was already writing songs for the show. Her debut album, Sour, came out in May 2021 and won her three Grammy Awards the next year, including Best New Artist. Its follow-up, Guts, arrived in 2023. Both albums were written with the producer Dan Nigro, and both are full of the precise, wounded, funny details of being young and angry.

Capricorn rises in her chart, with Venus in Capricorn in the first house. Capricorn is controlled, ambitious and older than its years, and Venus there tends to give a polished, composed exterior. The combination describes an interesting tension: a writer whose songs are all raw nerve, and a public presence that is measured and self-possessed. Astrologers would say the Pisces does the feeling and the Capricorn decides what to do with it.

Saturn sits in Gemini in the sixth house, concerned with daily work and craft. Gemini is the sign of words, and Saturn is the planet of discipline. A sixth-house Saturn in Gemini points to the unglamorous labor behind the songs, the rewriting and editing that turns a diary entry into a lyric.

The Moon is in Libra in the ninth house, the house of meaning and wider horizons. A Libra Moon needs balance and fairness in relationships, and many of her best-known songs are about exactly that: the imbalance of a breakup, the unfairness of someone else's easy happiness.

She was still a teenager when the first song broke. The Pisces Sun gave her the feelings; the Capricorn rising gave her the nerve to put her name on them.
