Michael Fassbender

In 2022, Michael Fassbender drove in the 24 Hours of Le Mans, one of the most demanding races in motor sport. He had spent years quietly working his way up through amateur racing, documenting the process in a web series, and he made it to the endurance classic in his mid-forties. For an actor known for extreme physical commitment, it was a fitting second career.

He was born at 12:30 a.m. on April 2, 1977, in Heidelberg, West Germany, according to a well-regarded Astro-Databank entry, to a German father and a Northern Irish mother. His Ascendant is in Sagittarius, a sign tied to adventure, risk and pushing limits. It suits a man who takes on demanding challenges for their own sake, whether that means racing at Le Mans or transforming his body for a role.

His Sun is in Aries in the third house, the area of everyday movement and communication, and Mars, Aries's ruling planet, sits in Pisces in the same house. Aries is driven, direct and competitive, and Mars in Pisces gives that drive a fluid, absorbing quality. Astrologers might call it the profile of an actor who channels intense force through empathy, disappearing into characters at real physical cost.

He grew up in Killarney, Ireland, where his parents ran a restaurant, and trained at the Drama Centre in London. After a role in the HBO series Band of Brothers, his breakthrough came with Steve McQueen's Hunger in 2008, in which he played the IRA hunger striker Bobby Sands and lost a dramatic amount of weight. He went on to work with McQueen again on Shame and 12 Years a Slave, which earned him an Oscar nomination, and he was nominated again for playing the title role in Steve Jobs. Mainstream audiences know him as the young Magneto in the X-Men films.

Saturn, retrograde in Leo, sits in the eighth house, the area of darkness, transformation and the forbidden. Saturn there tends to describe someone drawn to heavy, difficult material, and his filmography is full of compulsion, cruelty and moral ambiguity, from the sex addict in Shame to the slave owner in 12 Years a Slave.

His Moon is in Virgo in the ninth house. Virgo is meticulous and devoted to craft, and the ninth governs travel and wider horizons. He has worked across Europe and America, and he has a reputation for exacting preparation.

He married the Swedish actress Alicia Vikander in 2017, after they met on the set of The Light Between Oceans, and the couple have kept their family life largely private. The Sagittarius rising took him to Le Mans. The Aries Sun made sure he finished.
