Mirka Federer

Mirka Federer met Roger Federer at the Sydney Olympics in 2000, where they were both playing tennis for Switzerland. She was three years older and a more established player at the time; he was nineteen. They became a couple soon afterward, and for the next two decades she was at the center of one of the greatest careers in the history of the sport, as his partner, manager, travel organizer and steady presence in the players' box.

She was born Miroslava Vavrinec on April 1, 1978, in Bojnice, in what is now Slovakia. Her family moved to Switzerland when she was two. The hour of her birth is not public, which leaves the Ascendant open, but her planets describe her well. Aries holds her Sun, and Mercury and Venus sit late in the same sign. Aries is competitive, direct and energetic. As a girl she was given her first tennis racket by Martina Navratilova, whom she met as a girl at a tournament in Germany, and she went on to reach the top 80 in the world before a persistent foot injury forced her to retire in 2002.

Her Moon is in Capricorn, a sign of practicality, organization and management. A Capricorn Moon finds security in structure and responsibility, and after her own career ended, Mirka took over much of the business and logistics of Roger's career, managing his schedule, media and travel in the early years.

Jupiter in late Gemini adds an unusually fitting detail. Jupiter multiplies whatever it touches, and Gemini is the sign of the twins. Mirka and Roger have two sets of twins: daughters, Myla and Charlene, born in 2009, and sons, Leo and Lenny, born in 2014.

Mars in late Cancer describes a fiercely protective drive centered on home and family. The Federers have kept their children largely out of the public eye, and Mirka has rarely given interviews, preferring to stay in the background.

Saturn in Leo, retrograde, describes a serious, disciplined relationship with the spotlight, often supporting someone else's fame rather than seeking one's own. Leo craves the spotlight, and Saturn there can describe the person who makes a star's life work.

Uranus in Scorpio, Neptune in Sagittarius and Pluto in Libra belong to her generation. The couple married in 2009 in Basel. Roger retired in 2022, ending his career at the Laver Cup in London in tears, holding hands with his rival Rafael Nadal, while Mirka and their children watched from the stands.

The Aries Sun made her a competitor; the Capricorn Moon made her the organizer behind a champion.
