Jeff Bezos

In 1994, Jeff Bezos left a lucrative job at the hedge fund D. E. Shaw in New York to start an online bookstore. He later described his reasoning as a "regret minimization framework": imagining himself at eighty, he decided he would never regret trying to be part of the internet's early growth, but he might regret not trying. He and his then-wife, MacKenzie, drove west to Seattle, and he began Amazon in a garage in Bellevue, Washington.

He was born Jeffrey Preston Jorgensen on January 12, 1964, in Albuquerque, New Mexico. His mother, Jacklyn, was seventeen. She later married Miguel Bezos, a Cuban immigrant who adopted Jeff. As a boy he spent summers on his grandfather's ranch in Texas, repairing equipment and learning self-reliance. Nobody has published the hour he was born, which leaves his Ascendant blank; the planets are revealing all the same.

His Sun is in Capricorn, the sign of ambition, long-term strategy and empire-building. Capricorn is patient and disciplined, focused on structures that last. Amazon famously lost money for years as Bezos reinvested in growth, insisting that investors take the long view. It became one of the most valuable companies in the world.

Mercury, retrograde in Capricorn, describes a methodical, strategic mind that thinks things through privately. Bezos is known for requiring executives to write six-page memos instead of presenting slides, and for his insistence on detailed, long-term planning.

Venus and Saturn, both in Aquarius, describe a love of innovation and disciplined commitment to the future. Aquarius is the sign of technology and progress. Bezos founded the space company Blue Origin in 2000, and in July 2021 he flew to the edge of space aboard its New Shepard rocket.

Uranus and Pluto, both in Virgo, are generational placements that fit a businessman whose company transformed logistics, retail and computing through efficiency and precision. Amazon Web Services, its cloud computing division, became one of its most profitable businesses.

Jupiter in Aries describes bold, aggressive expansion. Amazon grew from books into nearly everything, and Bezos bought the Washington Post in 2013. Neptune in Scorpio adds a hidden, intense dimension.

He studied electrical engineering and computer science at Princeton University. In 2019 he and MacKenzie Scott divorced, and in 2021 he stepped down as Amazon's chief executive, becoming executive chairman. In June 2025 he married Lauren Sánchez in Venice. He has frequently been one of the richest people in the world. The Capricorn Sun built the empire patiently; the Aquarius planets pointed it toward the future, and eventually toward space.
