Demi Lovato

Demi Lovato met Selena Gomez as young children, waiting in line to audition for Barney and Friends. Both became Disney Channel stars a few years later, Lovato in Camp Rock and Sonny with a Chance, and Lovato released a debut album, Don't Forget, at sixteen. From the outside it looked like the standard Disney arc. Inside, as Lovato has described in detail since, it was a period of eating disorders, self-harm and substance use hidden behind a carefully managed image.

Lovato was born on August 20, 1992, in Albuquerque, New Mexico, and raised near Dallas. The exact birth time is uncertain, but Lovato has said publicly that the chart has Leo rising, and the Sun is in Leo too. A Leo Sun with a Leo Ascendant is a doubled signature of the performer, someone whose identity and public presence are both built for the stage. It suits a singer known above all for a powerful voice and for big, belted choruses.

The Moon is in Taurus, a sign that craves stability, comfort and security. Leo and Taurus are both fixed signs, determined and slow to change direction, and a Taurus Moon describes emotional needs centered on safety. Much of Lovato's public story has been about the search for that safety, in recovery, in sobriety and in relationships.

In 2010, at eighteen, Lovato left a tour and entered treatment for an eating disorder and self-harm, and was later diagnosed with bipolar disorder. Lovato spoke openly about all of it, at a time when few young stars did, and songs like "Skyscraper" became anthems for listeners going through the same things.

Venus and Jupiter are both in Virgo, a sign associated with health, analysis and self-improvement, and with a perfectionism that can turn harsh. Lovato has spoken about how much perfectionism and body image shaped the illness, and later recovery work focused on easing it.

In July 2018, after six years of sobriety, Lovato nearly died of an overdose, suffering three strokes and a heart attack that left lasting damage to their vision. The 2021 documentary series Dancing with the Devil told the story in Lovato's own words. That same year Lovato came out as nonbinary.

Mars is in Gemini, the sign of words, communication and quick shifts. Lovato has always spoken quickly and candidly, often in public before telling anyone in private, and has used music to say things that would be hard to say otherwise. "Anyone," written just before the overdose, was performed at the 2020 Grammys in a raw, tearful return. Lovato also sang the national anthem at Super Bowl LIV and later directed Child Star, a 2024 documentary about the costs of fame for young performers.

The double Leo wanted the spotlight, and the Taurus Moon wanted somewhere solid to stand. Lovato's career has been the story of trying to have both.
