Rosalynn Carter

Mental health advocacy that began in the 1970s and continued for fifty years, reshaping how the United States talks about mental illness — Rosalynn Carter's defining public work traces directly back to a specific wound converted into a specific mission. The Moon sits conjunct Chiron in Taurus, ruling the peak of the chart, and a placement there needs the public role itself to feel emotionally whole, with Taurus tying that role to durable values rather than a passing spotlight. Chiron alongside the Moon marks the wound that became the work.

Carter was born August 18, 1927, at 6:00 in the morning in Plains, Georgia, Leo rising, the Midheaven itself in Taurus. The Sun sits conjunct Neptune in Leo, right at that Ascendant, giving her visible presence a warmth that always seemed to operate in service of something larger than herself. People meet a Leo Sun placed this prominently and read dignity and quiet authority — qualities she carried through six decades in public view.

Venus conjuncts Mars in Virgo, in the 2nd house of daily value, treating love and labor as functionally the same activity — service, consistent daily attention to the people she cared for, the willingness to do the small necessary thing every day. Her habit of writing personal letters, and running the East Wing as an actual substantive policy operation rather than a ceremonial post, both trace back to this placement.

Saturn occupies Sagittarius, landing in the sector governing home and ancestry, building a long, principled family foundation — her home in Plains, Georgia remained the structural center of the Carter family for nine decades.

Jupiter conjuncts Uranus in Aries, occupying the house that governs belief and distant reach, describing a fierce, idealistic willingness to expand internationally and disrupt diplomatic convention for the sake of principle. Decades of joint work with Jimmy through the Carter Center, monitoring elections and running public health campaigns on nearly every continent, reads directly off this placement.

Pluto occupies Cancer, tucked into the house of the hidden and unseen, describing a quiet, protective faith held mostly out of view — the same register that carried a seventy seven year marriage, ending only with her death in November 2023 at 96, less than a year before Jimmy Carter's own death in December 2024.
