Vera Farmiga

Vera Farmiga spoke only Ukrainian until she was six. Her parents had emigrated from Ukraine, and she grew up in a close-knit Ukrainian community in New Jersey, the second of seven children, touring as a teenager with a Ukrainian folk dance troupe. Her youngest sister, Taissa Farmiga, born more than twenty years later, also became an actress, and both sisters have made careers in horror.

She was born on August 6, 1973, in Clifton, New Jersey, at 5:07 in the afternoon, as recorded on her birth certificate. Leo holds her Sun, which falls in the eighth house, which concerns death, the occult, transformation and what lies beneath the surface. Leo is a sign of warmth, presence and performance, and an eighth-house Leo Sun describes a performer drawn to dark, transformative material. Farmiga became a defining face of modern horror, as the paranormal investigator Lorraine Warren in The Conjuring films and as Norma Bates in the television series Bates Motel.

Her Moon is in Scorpio in the eleventh house. A Scorpio Moon is intuitive and drawn to hidden things, and it is hard to find a better placement for an actress whose most famous role is a real-life clairvoyant. Lorraine Warren, whom Farmiga played across a decade of Conjuring films, claimed to sense spirits, and Farmiga met her while preparing for the role.

Sagittarius is her rising sign, giving an open, warm and spirited manner. Farmiga is known for her expressiveness and for the emotional generosity of her performances.

Mercury and Saturn, both in Cancer, sit in her seventh house, the domain of marriage. Cancer is protective and devoted to family, and Saturn there describes committed, serious partnerships. She married the musician Renn Hawkey in 2008, and he has worked alongside her on several projects.

She studied at Syracuse University and worked in theater before her film career. Venus in Virgo and Pluto in Libra lie in her ninth house of beliefs and spirituality. In 2011 she directed her first film, Higher Ground, about a woman's struggle with faith in a fundamentalist Christian community, in which she also starred.

Uranus in Libra occupies her tenth house, describing a career with unexpected turns. Her breakthrough came in Debra Granik's Down to the Bone, and she went on to The Departed, opposite Leonardo DiCaprio and Matt Damon, and Up in the Air, opposite George Clooney, which earned her an Academy Award nomination in 2010.

Mars in Aries falls in her fourth house, linked with heritage and family, describing a fierce attachment to family and heritage. She has remained proud of her Ukrainian background and has spoken out in support of Ukraine since the Russian invasion of 2022.

The Leo Sun in her eighth house drew her toward the dark; the Scorpio Moon made her believable as someone who could see through it.
