Lizzo

In September 2022, Lizzo played a two-hundred-year-old crystal flute that had belonged to President James Madison, on stage in Washington, D.C., after the Library of Congress invited her to see its collection. It was a reminder that before she was a pop star, Melissa Jefferson was a classically trained flutist who studied music performance at the University of Houston.

She was born on April 27, 1988, in Detroit, Michigan, and moved with her family to Houston when she was ten. Because the hour of her birth is private, her Ascendant cannot be cast. Taurus, however, holds a trio of planets: the Sun, Mercury and Jupiter. Taurus is associated with the voice, sensuality, music and self-worth, and Jupiter expands those qualities. A strong Taurus emphasis describes a performer who celebrates the body and its pleasures, and Lizzo's music is built around self-love, body positivity and joyful sensuality.

Her Moon is in Virgo, a placement of careful, sometimes self-critical emotions. Virgo can be hard on itself, and Lizzo has spoken about years of struggling with self-image and depression before embracing the confident persona her fans know.

Venus in Gemini adds wit, playfulness and a talent for clever lyrics. Lizzo's songs are full of quotable one-liners, from "I just took a DNA test, turns out I'm 100% that bitch" in "Truth Hurts" to the catchphrases of "Good as Hell."

Mars in Aquarius describes an independent, unconventional drive and a willingness to break molds. Aquarius champions individuality, and Lizzo has made being unapologetically herself central to her public image.

After years of performing in Houston and Minneapolis, she broke through when "Truth Hurts," first released in 2017, went viral in 2019 and topped the American singles chart. Her album Cuz I Love You followed, and in 2020 she won three Grammy Awards. In 2023 "About Damn Time" won Record of the Year.

Saturn, Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn belong to her generation, describing ambition and a willingness to work through obstacles. She created the reality competition series Watch Out for the Big Grrrls, which won an Emmy in 2022.

Pluto in Scorpio adds intensity and a capacity for transformation. In 2023 several former dancers sued her, alleging harassment and a hostile workplace; Lizzo denied the allegations. She has continued to make music and has spoken about the pressures of being held up as a symbol.

The Taurus planets gave her the voice and the message of self-love; the Aquarius Mars gave her the nerve to be exactly who she is.
