Jung Ho-yeon

Jung Ho-yeon had never acted professionally when she was cast in Squid Game. She was a fashion model, known on runways in Paris, Milan and New York, and her role as Kang Sae-byeok, a guarded North Korean defector trying to win money to rescue her family, was her first. The Netflix series, released in September 2021, became the most-watched show in the service's history, and Jung became a global star almost overnight.

She was born on June 23, 1994, in Seoul, South Korea. There is no published birth time, so the chart's Ascendant cannot be fixed, but the planets fit her well. Her Sun had only just entered Cancer, with Mercury, retrograde, also in Cancer. Cancer is sensitive, protective and guarded, and it hides a soft heart behind a hard shell. Sae-byeok was exactly that kind of character: tough, silent and suspicious on the surface, driven by love for her younger brother. Jung played her with a restraint that made the character's rare moments of warmth devastating.

Venus in Leo describes glamour, presence and an instinct for performance. Leo wants to be seen, and Venus there loves beauty and style. Jung began modeling as a teenager, finished second on Korea's Next Top Model in 2013 and went on to walk exclusively for Louis Vuitton, becoming one of the most successful Korean models internationally.

Mars in Taurus brings patient, steady determination. Taurus moves slowly but persistently, and Jung has spoken about the difficult years when she struggled to find work as a model abroad and about learning English and acting with careful, disciplined effort.

Saturn in Pisces adds seriousness to imaginative and emotional work. Pisces is the sign of empathy and transformation, and Saturn there describes the discipline of craft. For Squid Game, Jung learned a North Korean dialect and studied the experiences of defectors to build her character.

Jupiter in Scorpio, retrograde, describes growth through depth, intensity and transformation, and Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn belong to her generation. Her performance won a Screen Actors Guild Award, making her one of the first Korean actors to win an individual SAG award, and earned her an Emmy nomination.

After Squid Game she worked internationally, appearing in Alfonso Cuarón's 2024 Apple TV series Disclaimer alongside Cate Blanchett, and she remained a major figure in fashion, serving as a global ambassador for Louis Vuitton. Fans in South Korea and abroad have embraced her as a symbol of the country's growing cultural reach. The Cancer Sun gave her the guarded heart that made Sae-byeok unforgettable; the Leo Venus made her a natural on the runway.
