Iain Glen

For eight seasons of Game of Thrones, Iain Glen played Ser Jorah Mormont, an exiled knight whose devotion to Daenerys Targaryen was unwavering and almost entirely unrequited. Jorah betrayed her once, spent seasons trying to win back her trust and finally died defending her. Glen's quiet, restrained performance made him one of the show's most sympathetic figures.

He was born on June 24, 1961, in Edinburgh, Scotland. The time he was born has not been made public, so his Ascendant and houses are uncertain, but the planets fit him remarkably well. His Sun is in early Cancer, with Mercury, retrograde, also in Cancer. Cancer is the sign of loyalty, devotion and protective love, and Mercury retrograde there suggests feelings that are held inside rather than spoken. It is an apt signature for an actor best known for playing a man whose devotion went largely unspoken.

His Moon is in Scorpio, with Neptune also in Scorpio. A Scorpio Moon feels intensely and privately, and Neptune adds longing and idealism. Glen has often played men with deep, hidden emotional lives, and his stillness on screen suggests much more than he says.

Venus in Taurus describes a steady, sensual and loyal heart, and it adds warmth to his presence. Mars in late Leo gives a commanding, theatrical energy that he has used on the stage for decades.

Glen has said that he loves the theater above all, and he has returned to the stage again and again between screen roles, including in productions of Shakespeare and in new plays in London. He was educated at Edinburgh Academy and studied at the University of Aberdeen before training at the Royal Academy of Dramatic Art in London, where he won the Bancroft Gold Medal. He became a respected stage actor, appearing in the West End and with the Royal Shakespeare Company, and in 1998 he starred opposite Nicole Kidman in The Blue Room in London.

Jupiter and Saturn, both retrograde, in Aquarius and Capricorn, describe a long, patient career built on discipline. Glen worked steadily for decades in film and television, including as the explorer John Hanning Speke in Mountains of the Moon, as Dr. Alexander Isaacs in the Resident Evil films and as the newspaper magnate Sir Richard Carlisle in Downton Abbey, before Game of Thrones made him widely known.

Uranus in Leo and Pluto in Virgo, generational placements, add a streak of reinvention. After Thrones, he played an older Bruce Wayne in the series Titans and continued to work on stage and screen.

He was married to the actress Susannah Harker and later married the actress Charlotte Emmerson, and he has children from both marriages. The Cancer Sun gave Jorah his loyalty; the Scorpio Moon gave him his ache.
