Donna Vekić

Donna Vekić reached her first professional final at fifteen, in Birmingham, England, in 2012, and was quickly marked as one of the most promising young players in women's tennis. The path from promise to the top proved much longer and more uneven than anyone expected. More than a decade later, at the Paris Olympics in 2024, she won a silver medal for Croatia, and that summer she reached the semifinals of Wimbledon for the first time.

She was born on June 28, 1996, in Osijek, in eastern Croatia. Without a recorded hour of birth, her chart offers no Ascendant, yet the planets remain telling. Her Sun is in Cancer, the sign of home, emotion and self-protection. Cancer guards its feelings, and Vekić has spoken about how much emotions affected her game and about learning to manage her nerves in big matches.

Mercury, Venus and Mars are all in Gemini, the sign of quickness, variety and adaptability. Venus is retrograde. Gemini planets describe a mind and body that move fast and change direction easily, and Vekić is known for her aggressive, varied baseline game, built on powerful groundstrokes and quick changes of rhythm.

Saturn in Aries describes a slow, hard-won development of confidence and competitive strength. Aries wants to win immediately, and Saturn there makes it wait. Vekić won her first WTA titles in her late teens and early twenties, but her ranking rose and fell for years, interrupted by injuries, including a knee operation that cost her months of play.

Jupiter, retrograde in Capricorn, describes success that comes slowly and through persistence. Capricorn rewards patience and long careers, and Vekić's best results came in her late twenties, when many players' careers are already declining.

Her 2024 Olympic run was emotional: she reached the gold medal match before losing to China's Zheng Qinwen, and after earlier matches she spoke tearfully about how much representing Croatia meant to her. At Wimbledon that year she won a series of tough matches to reach the semifinals, where she lost a close three-set match to Jasmine Paolini.

Uranus in Aquarius, Neptune in Capricorn and Pluto, just entering Sagittarius, belong to her generation but suit an athlete whose career has had unexpected turns. Vekić has also been open in interviews about the mental side of tennis and about the value of working with a sports psychologist.

The Cancer Sun made her emotional and protective; the Gemini planets gave her the speed and variety to stay in the game long enough to reach the biggest stages.
