Kevin Hart

In 2015, Kevin Hart performed stand-up in front of about 50,000 people at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia, becoming the first comedian to sell out an NFL stadium. It was a homecoming. Hart grew up in North Philadelphia, raised mostly by his mother, Nancy, while his father struggled with addiction and spent time in prison. He began doing comedy at amateur nights while working as a shoe salesman, under the name "Lil Kev the Bastard."

He was born on July 6, 1979, in Philadelphia, at 10:13 a.m. His baby card, reproduced in his 2017 memoir, I Can't Make This Up, records that hour, which gives him Virgo rising. His Sun is in Cancer, the sign of family, home and loyalty, and Venus had entered Cancer only hours before he was born. Cancer describes someone whose deepest material and motivation come from family, and Hart's comedy has always been built on it: his mother's toughness, his father's chaos, his children, his marriages and his own insecurities.

His Moon has just crossed into Sagittarius, the sign of humor, storytelling and big, exaggerated tales, and it sits in the third house, where talk and everyday speech are read. A Sagittarius Moon tends to process feeling through laughter and adventure, and Hart's style is pure storytelling, long, escalating anecdotes performed with enormous physical energy.

Mars is in Gemini, the sign of speed, words and nervous energy, and it stands near the Midheaven in the tenth house, the most public point of the chart. Mars there describes drive expressed through talk, and Hart's delivery is famously fast and frantic, a torrent of words and reactions.

His breakthrough came with his stand-up specials, especially Laugh at My Pain in 2011, a concert film that became one of the highest-grossing stand-up films ever released. He moved into movies, starring in Ride Along, Central Intelligence with Dwayne Johnson, and the Jumanji films, and he built HartBeat, a media company that produces comedy across film, television and digital platforms.

Mercury and Jupiter are both in Leo, the sign of the performer, which adds showmanship and a love of an audience. Saturn in Virgo sits in the first house, under the same sign as his Ascendant, a placement associated with hard, careful work and a guarded self-image, and it fits a comedian known for a relentless touring schedule and a disciplined approach to fitness.

His career has had serious setbacks. In 2018 he stepped down as host of the Academy Awards after old homophobic jokes and tweets resurfaced; he later apologized. In 2019 he was badly injured in a car crash and spent months recovering from back surgery, an experience he later discussed in a documentary series about his recovery.

In 2024 he received the Mark Twain Prize for American Humor at the Kennedy Center. The Cancer Sun never stopped mining family for material, and the Sagittarius Moon turned all of it into stories big enough to fill a stadium.
