Emma Watson

Emma Watson was nine when she was cast as Hermione Granger in Harry Potter and the Sorcerer's Stone, chosen after casting directors visited her school in Oxford. She played the know-it-all witch for a decade, through eight films, and Hermione's bookishness, quick hand in class and fierce sense of justice became inseparable in many fans' minds from the actress herself.

She was born on April 15, 1990, in Paris, at six in the evening, a time from her birth record. Her parents were English lawyers working in France, and the family moved to England when she was five. Virgo is her rising sign, the sign of the diligent student, precise, studious and attentive to detail. Virgo rising suits an actress forever associated with the cleverest student at Hogwarts, and Watson herself was an excellent student who balanced filming with schoolwork.

Her Moon, in Sagittarius, occupies the third house, the province of reading and learning. Sagittarius is the sign of higher learning and wide-ranging curiosity, and in the third house it describes someone who finds emotional nourishment in books and ideas. After the Potter films, Watson studied English literature at Brown University, graduating in 2014, and she later started a feminist book club called Our Shared Shelf. In 2023 she began graduate study in creative writing at Oxford.

Her Sun is in Aries in the eighth house, with Mercury in Taurus there as well. Aries is courageous and independent, and the eighth house concerns transformation and deep personal change. Watson has repeatedly stepped away from fame to reinvent her life, choosing study and activism over a conventional film career.

Jupiter in Cancer sits in her tenth house of public reputation. Jupiter there describes early and widespread public recognition, and few actors have become as famous as young as she did.

Mars in Aquarius falls in her fifth house of creative self-expression. Aquarius is the sign of causes and collective change. In 2014 she was appointed a UN Women Goodwill Ambassador and launched the HeForShe campaign with a widely shared speech at the United Nations, calling on men to join the fight for gender equality.

Venus in Pisces lies in her sixth house of daily work. Venus in Pisces is gentle and idealistic, and Watson has made ethics part of her work, campaigning for sustainable fashion and serving on the board of the luxury group Kering's sustainability committee.

Saturn, Uranus and Neptune, all in Capricorn, sit in her fourth house of roots and private life, describing a guarded inner world and a strong need for a private home life apart from fame.

Her post-Potter films included The Perks of Being a Wallflower, Disney's Beauty and the Beast, in which she played Belle, and Greta Gerwig's Little Women. After that she largely stepped back from acting and, with her brother Alex, launched a gin brand, Renais. The Virgo Ascendant made her the eternal student; the Aries Sun kept her choosing her own path.
