Demi Moore

In 2024, Demi Moore starred in The Substance, a body-horror film about an aging actress who takes an injection that creates a younger, more perfect version of herself, with grotesque consequences. At 61 she gave the most daring performance of her career, won a Golden Globe and earned her first Academy Award nomination. For an actress whose body had been a subject of public fascination for four decades, the role was a reckoning.

Transformation is the defining theme of her chart, cast for 2:16 p.m. on November 11, 1962, in Roswell, New Mexico, a time Astro-Databank considers sound. The Sun, Mercury and Venus all fall in Scorpio in her eighth house. Scorpio is the sign of death and rebirth, the body and its secrets; the eighth house concerns crisis, intimacy and profound change. With so much Scorpio there, astrologers would expect a life of repeated reinvention under intense pressure, often involving the body itself.

Her Moon is in Taurus in the second house, directly opposite the Sun, which means she was born at a full moon. Taurus is grounded, sensual and concerned with security, and the second governs money and self-worth. The Taurus-Scorpio axis is the astrological line between what one owns and what one shares, and Moore's career has been marked by both. In the mid-1990s she became the highest-paid actress in Hollywood when she received $12.5 million for Striptease, a deal that made her a target as much as a star.

She was born Demetria Guynes and had a chaotic childhood, moving dozens of times, and she dropped out of high school at 16. In her 2019 memoir, Inside Out, she wrote frankly about her mother's addiction, her own struggles with alcohol and an eating disorder, and the trauma of her early years. She started as a model, then joined the soap opera General Hospital, then the Brat Pack in St. Elmo's Fire. Ghost, in 1990, made her one of the biggest stars in the world, followed by A Few Good Men and Indecent Proposal.

Pisces is on her Ascendant, with Jupiter in Pisces in the twelfth house. Pisces is fluid and sensitive and can absorb the projections of others, and for an actress so often defined by what audiences saw in her, the placement fits. She has said she spent years shaping herself to meet expectations.

Mars sits in Leo in the fifth house of creativity, romance and children. Leo is bold and dramatic, and Mars there gives a fearless, theatrical streak. Her marriages to Bruce Willis and later to Ashton Kutcher were among the most watched celebrity relationships of their eras. She and Willis have three daughters, and after their divorce they built an unusually close blended family that has stayed together through his illness.

The Substance asked what happens when a woman is told her body has expired. Moore's answer, on screen and off, was the Scorpio one: you go through it, and you come out the other side.
