Bruno Mars

Bruno Mars was a professional performer at four. Born Peter Gene Hernandez in Honolulu, he joined his family's revue as "Little Elvis," performing Presley's songs in a tiny jumpsuit for tourists in Waikiki, and he appeared as a child Elvis impersonator in the 1992 film Honeymoon in Vegas. His father, Pete Hernandez, a Puerto Rican percussionist, led the family band, and his mother, Bernadette, who emigrated from the Philippines, was a singer and hula dancer. Before he could read, Mars was studying how to work a crowd.

He was born on October 8, 1985. Without a published birth hour, his Ascendant stays a blank, yet the planets alone fit him remarkably well. His Sun is in Libra, with Mercury also in Libra. Libra is ruled by Venus and associated with charm, harmony, beauty and polish. A Libra Sun describes an entertainer who wants everything to look and sound graceful, and Mars's records are known for meticulous craftsmanship and a love of classic, elegant styles, from doo-wop and Motown to 1980s funk.

Venus and Mars are both in Virgo. Virgo is precise, perfectionist and devoted to technique. With Venus and Mars there, art and drive are both channeled into detail, and Mars is famous for his perfectionism in the studio and on stage, rehearsing dance routines and arrangements until they are exact.

At seventeen he moved to Los Angeles. A deal with Motown fell apart, and he built his career instead as a songwriter and producer, forming the production team the Smeezingtons and writing hits for other artists, including CeeLo Green's "Forget You." His voice on the hooks of B.o.B's "Nothin' on You" and Travie McCoy's "Billionaire" introduced him to listeners, and his 2010 debut album produced "Just the Way You Are" and "Grenade."

Jupiter in Aquarius describes success through collaboration and through reaching wide audiences. Mars has had some of his biggest hits as a partner: "Uptown Funk" with Mark Ronson in 2014; the band Silk Sonic with Anderson .Paak, whose "Leave the Door Open" won Record and Song of the Year; and, in 2024, "Die with a Smile" with Lady Gaga and "APT." with Rosé, both enormous global hits.

Saturn and Pluto, both in Scorpio, describe intensity and hard lessons beneath the bright surface. His mother died suddenly of a brain aneurysm in 2013, and Mars has spoken about how much he misses her.

Uranus in Sagittarius and Neptune in Capricorn describe a performer who updates old styles with restless energy. He headlined the Super Bowl halftime show in 2014, and his 2016 album 24K Magic won all three major Grammy categories in 2018: Album, Record and Song of the Year. He has also held a long-running residency in Las Vegas.

The Libra Sun gave him the charm and polish; the Virgo planets made sure every step and every note was in place.
