Xabi Alonso

In the 2023-24 season, Bayer Leverkusen won the Bundesliga for the first time in the club's history, and did it without losing a single league match, something no team had ever done in Germany. The coach was Xabi Alonso, in his first full season in charge of a top-flight club. A year later he was named manager of Real Madrid, the club where he had won the Champions League as a player.

He learned the game at home. His father, Periko Alonso, was a midfielder who won league titles with Real Sociedad and played for Barcelona and Spain. His chart puts that inheritance at the root of everything. Xabi was born at 11:00 p.m. on November 25, 1981, in Tolosa, in the Basque Country, per his birth certificate, and the Sun in Sagittarius, the Moon in Scorpio and Mercury in Scorpio all fall in the fourth house, which concerns home, family and origins. A cluster in the fourth suggests someone whose identity is grounded in family and place, and Alonso followed his father's path almost exactly, from San Sebastián to Real Sociedad to the national team.

As a player, he was the deep-lying playmaker who dictated a game's tempo with long, precise passes. Mars sits in Virgo in the second house. Virgo is the sign of precision and technique, and Mars there suggests energy applied with exactness, a fair summary of a midfielder famous for the accuracy of his passing. He moved from Real Sociedad to Liverpool in 2004 and scored the equalizer in the 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul, when Liverpool came back from three goals down against AC Milan. He later won the competition again with Real Madrid and played for Bayern Munich under Pep Guardiola. With Spain he won the European Championship in 2008 and 2012 and the World Cup in 2010.

Jupiter, Saturn and Pluto all fall in Libra in his third house. Libra is the sign of balance, and the third house governs thinking, communication and tactics. Astrologers would read the combination as a strategic, balanced mind and a gift for explaining ideas, which describes the player who was called a coach on the field long before he became one.

With Leo rising, he projects authority and presence. Alonso has always carried himself with a calm, elegant command, and as a coach he is known for a composed touchline manner and for earning players' trust.

Venus in Capricorn in the sixth house points to an appreciation of disciplined, careful work. His Leverkusen side was built patiently and meticulously, and the unbeaten season was the result of a system rather than a lucky run.

He returned to Madrid in 2025, this time in charge. For a man whose chart is anchored so firmly in the house of roots, it was another kind of homecoming.
