Sandra Bullock

On the weekend of the 2010 Academy Awards, Sandra Bullock won two prizes. On Saturday she won the Razzie for worst actress for All About Steve, and she showed up in person to accept it, bringing a wagon full of DVDs of the film for the audience. On Sunday she won the Oscar for Best Actress for The Blind Side. The double win summed up her appeal: a star who never took herself too seriously.

She was born on July 26, 1964, in Arlington, Virginia. Her birth time has not been reliably sourced, so her rising sign and houses are unknown, but her planets suit her well. Her Sun is in Leo, with Mercury also in Leo. Leo is warm, generous and built for the spotlight, and Mercury there gives a playful, theatrical voice. Bullock became one of the most likable stars in Hollywood, known for warm, funny performances and an easy, self-mocking public persona.

Her mother, Helga Meyer, was a German opera singer and voice teacher, and her father, John Bullock, worked for the U.S. Army. She spent much of her childhood in Nuremberg, Germany, traveling with her mother on tours and singing in the children's chorus of the opera. She speaks fluent German.

Venus and Mars are both in Gemini, the sign of wit, banter and quick timing. Venus and Mars together in Gemini describe charm expressed through verbal sparring, and Bullock's best-loved roles, in Speed, While You Were Sleeping, Miss Congeniality and The Proposal, depend on comic timing and fast, bantering dialogue.

Jupiter in Taurus describes steady, lasting success and a love of comfort and home. Bullock built one of the longest careers as a box-office star of any actress of her generation, from Speed in 1994 to Gravity, which earned her another Oscar nomination in 2014, and the Netflix thriller Bird Box, one of the most-watched films in the service's history.

Saturn, retrograde in Pisces, suggests private sorrows and hard lessons that come through compassion. In 2010, weeks after her Oscar win, revelations of her then-husband's infidelity ended her marriage. That same year she adopted her son, Louis, and in 2015 her daughter, Laila, and she has spoken about motherhood as the center of her life.

Uranus and Pluto, both in Virgo, belong to her generation but describe a capacity to rebuild after upheaval. Neptune in Scorpio adds a sensitivity to loss. Her longtime partner, the photographer Bryan Randall, died of ALS in 2023 after a private illness, and Bullock stepped away from public life for a time to grieve.

She has long been known for generous, quiet philanthropy, including major donations to disaster relief. The Leo Sun gave her the warmth; the Gemini Venus and Mars gave her the timing that made audiences laugh along with her.
