Arnold Schwarzenegger

In 1965, Arnold Schwarzenegger was serving in the Austrian army when he slipped away without permission to compete in the Junior Mr. Europe contest in Germany. He won, and spent a week in military prison when he got back. Two years later, at twenty, he became the youngest man to win the Mr. Universe title. Every major chapter of his life since, as bodybuilder, movie star and governor, has followed the same pattern: decide on the goal, ignore the rules, and win.

He was born on July 30, 1947, in the village of Thal, near Graz, in Austria, at 4:10 in the morning, a time Astro-Databank gives an A rating. His Sun is in Leo in the first house, with Venus also there, just inside Cancer. Leo is the sign of the performer, the king and the physical display of strength and confidence. A Leo Sun in the first house, the house of the body and self-presentation, describes someone whose identity is built on being seen, and it is hard to think of a more literal example than a man who became famous for displaying his body on stage.

With Cancer on the Ascendant, a protective, family-oriented streak runs beneath the bravado. His father, Gustav, a strict local police chief, was hard on his sons, and Schwarzenegger has spoken about the difficult atmosphere in which he grew up.

His Moon is in Capricorn in the sixth house, which concerns daily routines, discipline and the body's upkeep. A Capricorn Moon finds security in hard work and structure, and in the sixth it describes someone emotionally anchored by daily regimens. Schwarzenegger trained for hours every day for years, and he still works out daily well into his seventies.

He moved to the United States in 1968 and went on to win the Mr. Olympia title seven times. Saturn and Pluto, both in Leo, sit in his second house of money and resources, describing ambition for wealth and the power to transform resources. He became a millionaire through real estate and a bricklaying business before his film career took off, and the documentary Pumping Iron, in 1977, brought him wider fame.

Mars, Mercury and Uranus fall in his twelfth house, describing drive that works behind the scenes and an unconventional streak. He became the most unlikely action star of the 1980s, despite a heavy accent that agents said would hold him back, with Conan the Barbarian, The Terminator and its famous line, "I'll be back," and Predator.

Jupiter in Scorpio lies in his fifth house of creativity and romance. He married Maria Shriver, a member of the Kennedy family, in 1986; they separated in 2011 after he admitted that he had fathered a son with a member of their household staff years earlier.

In 2003 he won the California recall election and served as governor until 2011, becoming known for his work on climate policy. The Leo Sun in his first house made his body his first stage; the Capricorn Moon kept him training every day of his life.
