Pep Guardiola

Pep Guardiola was thirteen when he arrived at La Masia, Barcelona's youth academy, from the small Catalan town of Santpedor. He became the defensive midfielder at the heart of Johan Cruyff's "Dream Team," which won the club's first European Cup in 1992, and he absorbed Cruyff's ideas about space, possession and positioning so thoroughly that he spent the rest of his life developing them. Few coaches have been more clearly shaped by one teacher, or have taken the lesson further.

He was born at 12:30 p.m. on January 18, 1971, a time quoted from his birth certificate, with the Sun near the top of the sky.
