Jamie Dornan

Jamie Dornan's first big break was as a model. In the mid-2000s he became one of the most sought-after male models in the world, appearing in campaigns for Calvin Klein and earning the tabloid nickname "the Golden Torso." He wanted to act, though, and the modeling work was a way to pay the bills while he auditioned.

He was born on May 1, 1982, in Holywood, County Down, in Northern Ireland. The hour of his birth has not been published, so the houses and Ascendant are guesswork, but his planets are clear. His Sun is in Taurus, a sign ruled by Venus and associated with physical beauty, sensuality and calm. Taurus has a grounded, easygoing presence, and Dornan is known for his relaxed, self-deprecating charm.

His Moon falls in Leo, which brings warmth, pride and a taste for performance. A Leo Moon needs creative expression and recognition, and Dornan has said that acting fulfills something modeling never did.

Venus in late Pisces is romantic, dreamy and idealistic, and Venus is at its strongest in Pisces. It suits an actor best known for playing romantic and sexual leading roles, most famously Christian Grey in the Fifty Shades of Grey films.

His father, Jim Dornan, was a prominent obstetrician, and his mother died of pancreatic cancer when Jamie was sixteen. He played rugby at school, studied briefly at university and played in a folk band, Sons of Jim, before turning to acting.

Mars and Saturn, both retrograde in Libra, describe energy and discipline that work slowly and inwardly, and an attraction to complicated moral territory. Dornan's breakthrough came as Paul Spector, a grief counselor who is secretly a serial killer, in the BBC thriller The Fall, opposite Gillian Anderson. The role showed that his gentle, handsome image could carry menace.

Jupiter in Scorpio, retrograde, and Pluto in Libra add depth and a capacity for dark material. After Fifty Shades, he chose more varied work, including Kenneth Branagh's Belfast, in 2021, playing a father deciding whether to take his family away from the violence of the Troubles; the role earned him a Golden Globe nomination. He also surprised audiences with a comic musical number in the film Barb and Star Go to Vista Del Mar and starred in the mystery series The Tourist.

Uranus and Neptune in Sagittarius describe a restless, adventurous streak. Dornan married the actress and composer Amelia Warner in 2013, and they have three daughters. His father died in 2021, and Dornan has spoken about his grief and the support of his family.

The Taurus Sun gave him the looks that opened doors; the Leo Moon gave him the desire to prove he could act once he was through them.
