Carli Lloyd

In 2003, Carli Lloyd was cut from the United States under-21 women's soccer team, and she nearly quit the sport. A trainer named James Galanis offered to work with her, and over the following years he rebuilt her fitness, her technique and her mental approach. She later wrote that she became a different player through sheer repetition, training alone for hours on empty fields.

She was born on July 16, 1982, in Delran, New Jersey. Her birth time has not been published, so her rising sign and houses are unknown, but her planets tell a clear story. Her Sun is in Cancer, with Mercury also in Cancer. Cancer is emotional, protective and fiercely loyal, and it can also be guarded and self-protective. Lloyd has been open about her estrangement from her parents for years during her career, a painful split she described in her 2016 memoir, When Nobody Was Watching.

Mars and Saturn are both in Libra, close together. Mars is drive and Saturn is discipline, endurance and hard work over time. Together they describe a person whose success comes from relentless, structured effort rather than natural ease. Lloyd became known as one of the hardest-working players in the sport, someone who built herself into a star through years of unglamorous training.

Venus in Gemini adds versatility and quickness, and Jupiter, just inside Scorpio, describes a capacity for intense, transformative performance under pressure. That combination showed up in the biggest moments of her career.

She scored the winning goal in the Olympic final in Beijing in 2008, in extra time against Brazil, and both goals in the Olympic final in London in 2012 against Japan. In the 2015 Women's World Cup final, again against Japan, she scored a hat trick in the first sixteen minutes, including a shot from the halfway line that sailed over the goalkeeper. She was named the tournament's best player, and FIFA named her the world's best player in 2015 and 2016.

Uranus and Neptune in Sagittarius describe restless ambition and a willingness to take risks. In 2019 she even kicked field goals at a Philadelphia Eagles practice, drilling one from fifty-five yards in a video that went viral, and she talked about trying out as an NFL kicker.

Pluto in Libra adds intensity to her sense of fairness. Lloyd was part of the U.S. women's team that fought for equal pay with the men's team, a battle the players eventually won in a settlement with the U.S. Soccer Federation.

She won the World Cup again in 2019 and retired in 2021 after more than three hundred international appearances and over a hundred goals. She married Brian Hollins, her longtime partner, in 2016. The Cancer Sun guarded her feelings; the Mars and Saturn in Libra did the work, day after day, until nobody could ignore her.
