OG Anunoby

OG Anunoby is famous for saying very little. In a league full of loud personalities, the forward has become known for brief interviews, a calm, unreadable expression and a quiet focus on defense, the least glamorous part of basketball. Teammates and coaches have described him as one of the best defenders in the NBA, able to guard almost anyone on the court.

He was born Ogugua Anunoby on July 17, 1997, in London, to Nigerian parents, and moved with his family to Jefferson City, Missouri, when he was four. His father was a professor at Lincoln University there. Because his birth time has not been made public, his chart has no Ascendant, but the planets describe him well. His Sun is in Cancer, the sign of protection and defense. Cancer, symbolized by the crab with its shell, is guarded, protective and reserved, which suits a player whose specialty is defending.

His Moon is in Sagittarius, a sign of optimism and a quiet independence. A Sagittarius Moon needs freedom and dislikes being pinned down, and Anunoby has stayed notably private about his life away from the court.

Mercury and Venus, both in Leo, add a confident, self-assured presence, and Mars in Libra describes energy that works through balance and timing. Anunoby's defense depends on positioning, anticipation and balance as much as athleticism.

He played college basketball at Indiana University, where a knee injury cut short his second season, and he was drafted twenty-third overall by the Toronto Raptors in 2017. In 2019, during the Raptors' championship run, he needed an emergency appendectomy and missed the playoffs, but he received a championship ring as a member of the team.

Saturn in Aries describes slow, disciplined development of competitive strength. Anunoby improved steadily year after year, developing a reliable three-point shot to go with his defense, and became one of the most valued players of his type in the league.

Jupiter and Uranus in Aquarius, both retrograde, describe opportunities that arrive suddenly and unconventionally. In December 2023 he was traded to the New York Knicks, and his arrival transformed their defense. In 2024 he signed a five-year contract with the Knicks worth more than two hundred million dollars, and in 2025 New York reached the Eastern Conference finals for the first time in a quarter of a century.

Neptune in Capricorn and Pluto in Sagittarius belong to his generation. The Cancer Sun made him a protector on the court; the Sagittarius Moon made him content to let his play do the talking.
