Bianca Andreescu

When she was fifteen, Bianca Andreescu wrote herself a fake check for the prize money awarded to the US Open champion. She kept it, and she practiced visualizing herself winning the tournament. Four years later, in September 2019, she beat Serena Williams 6–3, 7–5 in the US Open final, becoming the first Canadian to win a Grand Slam singles title.

She was born on June 16, 2000, in Mississauga, Ontario, to parents who had emigrated from Romania, and she spent part of her childhood living in Romania before the family returned to Canada. Since no birth time has been released for her, her Ascendant is unknown, but her planets are revealing. Her Sun is in late Gemini, with Venus also in Gemini. Gemini is versatile, inventive and changeable, and Andreescu's tennis reflects it. She is known for a creative, unpredictable style, mixing powerful groundstrokes with drop shots, slices, lobs and sudden changes of pace that keep opponents guessing.

Her Moon is in Sagittarius, the sign of optimism, faith and big dreams. A Sagittarius Moon believes in its own future, and Andreescu has spoken about meditation and visualization as central to her success, describing how she imagined matches in detail before playing them.

Jupiter and Saturn sit together in Taurus, a combination that belongs to people born around 2000. Taurus is patient and physical, and Saturn there describes the slow, hard work of the body. Andreescu's career has been heavily affected by injury: after her extraordinary 2019 season, in which she also won Indian Wells as a wild card and the Canadian Open, she tore a knee ligament and missed most of the next year and a half.

Mercury in Cancer describes an emotional, sensitive mind, attached to family and home. Andreescu has spoken openly about anxiety and about taking a break from tennis in 2022 to care for her mental health. During the pandemic she also worked with a sports psychologist and talked publicly about the value of therapy.

Uranus and Neptune in Aquarius, retrograde, belong to her generation, while Pluto in Sagittarius adds a drive toward personal transformation through belief and experience. In 2022 she published a children's book, Bibi's Got Game, about her childhood and her dog, Coco, who often traveled with her to tournaments.

Further injuries, including a stress fracture in her back in 2023, slowed her return. Even so, her 2019 season remains one of the most remarkable breakthroughs in recent tennis history: in one year she rose from outside the top 150 to a Grand Slam title and the top five. The Gemini Sun gave her the creativity on court; the Sagittarius Moon gave her the faith to imagine winning before she ever did.
