Tucker Carlson

In October 2004, the comedian Jon Stewart appeared on CNN's Crossfire and told its hosts, Tucker Carlson and Paul Begala, that their show was "hurting America." The segment went viral, Crossfire was cancelled a few months later, and Carlson, then known for his bow tie and his debating style, left CNN. Two decades later he had become one of the most influential and polarizing figures in American media.

He was born at 10:07 in the morning on May 16, 1969, in San Francisco, the time recorded on his birth certificate. The Sun and Moon are both in Taurus, the Moon in the final degree of the sign, and Mercury is in Gemini; all three fall in the eleventh house, which is associated with groups, audiences, networks and shared causes. Taurus is stubborn, steady and resistant to outside pressure. A Taurus Sun and Moon in the eleventh describe a person whose identity is bound up with a following, and who holds his positions with immovable certainty.

Mercury in Gemini brings a quick, verbal and combative intelligence. Carlson's style, both in debate and on his later Fox News monologues, was built on rhetorical speed, sarcasm and a persistent questioning tone.

Cancer is his rising sign, a sign concerned with home, family and protection. His own childhood was unsettled. His parents divorced when he was young, and his mother left the family; he was raised by his father, Richard Carlson, a journalist who later became a diplomat. He attended boarding school at St. George's in Rhode Island, where he met his future wife, Susan Andrews, whom he married in 1991.

Venus in Aries and Saturn in Taurus both sit in his tenth house, which governs career and public reputation. Venus in Aries brings combative charm, and Saturn in the tenth is associated with authority built slowly, along with the possibility of sharp reversals. Carlson worked as a print journalist for The Weekly Standard before moving to television at CNN, then MSNBC, and in 2010 he co-founded the website the Daily Caller.

In 2016 he launched Tucker Carlson Tonight on Fox News, and it became the most-watched program on cable news. His monologues on immigration, elites and the culture war drew a large, devoted audience and heavy criticism from opponents, who accused him of spreading falsehoods and inflaming division.

Mars, retrograde in Sagittarius, lies in his fifth house, a placement associated with an independent streak that resists being contained. In April 2023, days after Fox settled a defamation lawsuit with Dominion Voting Systems for $787.5 million, the network abruptly removed him. He relaunched his show independently online, and in 2024 he interviewed Vladimir Putin in Moscow, a broadcast watched by millions and criticized by many.

Whatever one makes of his views, the Taurus planets in the house of audiences describe him well: a man who found a following and never moved an inch.
