Selena Gomez

Selena Gomez was named after the Tejano singer Selena Quintanilla. She was raised in Grand Prairie, Texas, largely by her mother, Mandy Teefey, who had her at sixteen and worked several jobs to support them. Gomez started acting at ten on the children's show Barney and Friends, and at fifteen she was cast as Alex Russo, the sarcastic teenage witch of the Disney Channel's Wizards of Waverly Place.

She was born on July 22, 1992. Her birth time is not well sourced, so her Ascendant is uncertain, and the Sun itself was crossing from Cancer into Leo that day. Under the commonly quoted morning time, her Sun is in the very last degree of Cancer, with Mercury, retrograde, and Venus already in Leo. That combination describes a person with two distinct sides: the private, protective, family-centered Cancer and the warm, star-quality Leo. Gomez has always seemed to be both, a global celebrity with one of the largest social media followings in the world who also guards her privacy and speaks often about needing to step back.

Venus and Mercury in Leo add charm, warmth and a gift for self-expression. Leo loves an audience, and Gomez has been performing for nearly her whole life, as an actress, a singer and a producer.

Mars at the very end of Taurus describes persistent, steady energy and a love of beauty. Taurus is associated with the senses and with physical things, and in 2020 Gomez launched Rare Beauty, a cosmetics company built around self-acceptance and mental health, which became so successful that she was named a billionaire in 2024.

Jupiter in Virgo, the sign of health and service, describes growth through healing and helping others. Gomez has been open about her health: she was diagnosed with lupus, an autoimmune disease, and in 2017 she received a kidney transplant from her friend Francia Raísa. In 2020 she revealed that she had been diagnosed with bipolar disorder, and she has used her platform to talk about mental health, founding the mental health platform Wondermind.

Saturn, retrograde in Aquarius, describes difficult lessons around independence and public image. Her relationships, including with Justin Bieber, were the subject of intense media attention for years.

Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn, and Pluto in Scorpio, belong to her generation but suit someone who has repeatedly transformed herself under public pressure. Her single "Lose You to Love Me," in 2019, gave her a first chart-topping single in the United States. Since 2021 she has starred alongside Steve Martin and Martin Short in Only Murders in the Building, and she appeared in the film Emilia Pérez in 2024.

In 2025 she married the producer Benny Blanco. The Cancer Sun keeps her protective of her inner world; the Leo planets keep bringing her back to the spotlight.
