Sean Strickland

In September 2023, Sean Strickland walked into the octagon in Sydney as a heavy underdog against Israel Adesanya, the UFC middleweight champion. Over five rounds he knocked Adesanya down in the first and outpointed him the rest of the way, winning the title in one of the biggest upsets in the promotion's recent history. It was a remarkable moment for a fighter who has said that mixed martial arts saved him from a violent and troubled youth.

He was born on February 27, 1991, in Anaheim, California. Without a recorded birth time, his Ascendant is not known, but his planets are interesting. His Sun is in Pisces, with Mercury also in Pisces. Pisces is a sensitive, emotional sign, and it can seem like an odd fit for a man known for brutal sparring sessions and inflammatory statements. But Pisces also absorbs the environment around it, and Strickland has described a childhood shaped by an abusive, alcoholic father and an atmosphere of hatred that he says he has spent his life trying to escape.

Venus in Aries adds a combative, impulsive edge to his personality. Aries is the sign of the warrior, and Venus there loves competition and directness. Strickland is famous for his blunt, aggressive style, both in the cage and online, where his offensive remarks about many groups of people have frequently drawn condemnation.

Mars in Gemini describes restless, verbal and quick energy. Gemini Mars fights with words as much as fists, and Strickland's trash talk and long, rambling interviews have made him one of the UFC's most talked-about personalities.

He began training as a teenager and fought professionally from a young age, building a record of wins with a high-volume, jab-heavy style. He has trained for years under the coach Eric Nicksick at Xtreme Couture in Las Vegas.

Jupiter, retrograde in Leo, describes pride and a desire for recognition that grows slowly, while Saturn at the very start of Aquarius suggests a stubborn independence and an insistence on doing things his own way.

Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn belong to his generation, and Pluto in Scorpio adds intensity and a fascination with power. In January 2024 Strickland lost the title to Dricus du Plessis in a close split decision, and he lost their rematch in February 2025.

Strickland remains one of the most polarizing figures in combat sports, admired by some for his toughness and candor and criticized by many for his views. The Pisces Sun absorbed a hard childhood; the Aries Venus turned it into a fighter's life.
