Madeon

In 2011, a sixteen-year-old French producer named Hugo Leclercq posted a video called "Pop Culture." Standing in front of a grid of glowing buttons on a Novation Launchpad, he played a live mashup of thirty-nine songs, from Daft Punk to Britney Spears, triggering samples with his fingers in real time. The video went viral, and Leclercq, performing as Madeon, became one of the most talked-about young names in electronic music.

He was born on May 30, 1994, in Nantes, France. Since his exact birth time has not been confirmed, his Ascendant is not used here, but his planets are revealing. Gemini, a placement of combination and quick connection, holds his Sun. Gemini loves to mix ideas, and the mashup, a form that joins fragments of many songs into a new whole, could hardly be more Geminian.

His Moon is in Aquarius, describing an emotional life tied to innovation, technology and the future. Aquarius is associated with electronics and with the new, and Madeon's music, with its bright synthesizers and intricate production, is built entirely with digital tools.

Venus in Cancer adds melody, warmth and nostalgia. Madeon's songs often combine euphoric dance energy with melancholy, emotional melodies.

Mars in Taurus describes steady, patient energy and a strong sense of rhythm and groove. Taurus is associated with sound and the body, and Madeon's music is built for live performance and dancing.

Saturn in Pisces, the sign of music and imagination, describes discipline applied to creative work. Madeon taught himself production as a child and spent years perfecting his craft before his breakthrough.

His success led to collaborations with major artists. He produced and co-wrote songs on Lady Gaga's album ARTPOP and worked with artists including Passion Pit. His debut album, Adventure, released in 2015, was praised for its joyful, intricate pop-electronic sound.

Jupiter in Scorpio, retrograde, describes depth and an inward turn. In 2016 he toured with the American producer Porter Robinson on the Shelter tour, built around their collaborative song "Shelter," with an animated video telling the story of a girl living alone in a simulated world. The tour became a landmark for fans of electronic music. Madeon is known for performing his music live rather than simply playing back tracks, building his shows around custom setups of controllers and screens, and fans have praised the care he puts into every visual and musical detail. He has also spoken about the long periods of solitude that go into making an album, working mostly alone in his home studio.

Uranus and Neptune in Capricorn, and Pluto in Scorpio, belong to his generation. His second album, Good Faith, released in 2019, embraced a warmer, gospel-influenced sound, and he toured it with an elaborate live show. The Gemini Sun made him a natural mash-up artist; the Aquarius Moon made the future his instrument.
