Gracie Abrams

Gracie Abrams began by posting songs to Instagram from her bedroom. Quiet, confessional and full of specific details, they read like pages from a diary. She released her first single, "Mean It in the Morning," in 2019, and within a few years she was opening for Taylor Swift on the Eras Tour, playing stadiums to tens of thousands of people every night.

She was born on September 7, 1999, in Los Angeles, the daughter of the filmmaker J.J. Abrams and the producer Katie McGrath. No birth hour is on record, which rules out reading her Ascendant, but the planets describe her music closely. Her Sun is in Virgo, with Mercury also in Virgo. Virgo is observant, analytical and focused on detail, and Mercury there gives a precise way with words. A Virgo Sun with Mercury describes a writer who notices everything and examines her own feelings closely, which is exactly what Abrams's songs do, cataloguing small moments of anxiety, longing and regret.

Her Moon is in Leo, with Venus, retrograde, also in Leo. Leo wants to be seen and to express itself fully, and a Leo Moon needs recognition and warmth. The retrograde Venus suggests feelings about love that are turned over and reexamined, sometimes long after a relationship ends, and many of her songs revisit past relationships with mixed regret and affection.

Mars and Pluto, both in Sagittarius, add intensity and a restless drive for growth. Abrams has steadily expanded her sound and ambition, from the hushed songs of her 2020 EP, Minor, to bigger, more energetic tracks.

Jupiter and Saturn, both retrograde in Taurus, describe a patient, slow-building career. Abrams has said she was wary of being seen as benefiting from her family's fame, and she worked her way up through small venues and online releases before her breakthrough. She briefly attended Barnard College in New York before leaving to focus on music.

Her 2023 debut album, Good Riddance, was produced by Aaron Dessner of the National, who has also worked with Swift. That year she was nominated for the Grammy for Best New Artist. Her second album, The Secret of Us, released in 2024, included "That's So True," which became her biggest hit, and a duet with Swift, "us."

Uranus and Neptune, both retrograde in Aquarius, belong to her generation, but they suit an artist who built her career through an online audience and who speaks openly about anxiety and mental health. Abrams has described writing as a way of processing feelings she struggles to say aloud.

The Virgo Sun gave her the eye for detail; the Leo Moon gave her the need to share it with a stadium.
