David Dobrik

David Dobrik's YouTube vlogs were famously short, about four minutes and twenty seconds each, and they moved fast: pranks, surprise gifts, stunts and running jokes with his friends, known as the Vlog Squad. By 2019 he had more than fifteen million subscribers and had become one of the most popular creators on the platform, known especially for surprising friends and strangers by giving away cars.

He was born on July 23, 1996, in Košice, Slovakia, and moved with his family to the Chicago suburbs when he was six. He grew up as a recipient of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program and became a United States citizen in 2019. The hour of his birth is unknown, so his Ascendant and houses cannot be determined, but his planets fit him closely. His Sun had just entered Leo, with Mercury also in Leo. Leo belongs to entertainers: generous, attention-loving and eager to make people happy. Dobrik's persona was built on spectacle and generosity, and his videos often ended with someone receiving a lavish surprise.

Gemini holds Venus and Mars, describing quick, playful energy and a love of banter. Gemini thrives on speed and variety, and Dobrik's editing style, with rapid cuts and punchlines, suited short attention spans perfectly. He first became known on Vine, the six-second video app, before moving to YouTube.

Jupiter, retrograde in Capricorn, describes business growth through careful planning. Dobrik launched a disposable-camera-style photo app, Dispo, and later a pizza restaurant, Doughbrik's, in Los Angeles.

Saturn, retrograde in Aries, describes consequences that arrive after reckless action. In 2021 Business Insider published a report in which a woman alleged that she had been sexually assaulted by a member of the Vlog Squad during the filming of a 2018 video. Another report described how a friend, Jeff Wittek, had been seriously injured in a 2020 stunt involving an excavator that Dobrik was operating. Advertisers cut ties, Dobrik apologized and stepped back from YouTube for a time, and he left the board of Dispo.

Uranus, retrograde in early Aquarius, belongs to his generation and describes a talent for viral, unconventional media. Neptune in Capricorn and Pluto in Sagittarius add a mix of ambition and reinvention.

Dobrik later returned to posting videos and focused on his businesses, while discussing the controversies in interviews. He has said that the backlash forced him to rethink how he worked and who he worked with, and he has spoken about the pressure of constantly topping his own stunts for an audience that expected more each time. His podcast and later projects have taken a quieter tone than the vlogs that made him famous. The Leo Sun made him a born entertainer who loved to give; the Aries Saturn delivered hard lessons about where the jokes and stunts could lead.
