Mars goes retrograde roughly every two years for about two months... the least frequent retrograde of the personal planets. When Mars retrograde arrives, the forward momentum that Mars normally provides shifts into something more internal and reflective. Projects stall, motivation becomes erratic, and the direct assertiveness that Mars normally enables becomes complicated and indirect.
The most common experience of Mars retrograde is frustration. You know what you want to do, but the energy to do it isn't there in the usual form. This isn't failure... it's redirection. The retrograde period is asking you to examine your desire rather than simply act on it.
